Celebrating an Award-Winning Transformation at MSP Terminal 1

The Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport Terminal 1 Operational Improvements Program has been recognized as a 2025 Finance & Commerce Top Project. Morcon is proud to have played a significant role in this decade-long, multi-phase transformation alongside the Metropolitan Airports Commission and the many project partners who brought it to life.

The $600 million overall program touched nearly every part of the passenger experience, from curbside arrival and security screening to baggage claim. As part of this broader effort, Morcon served as general contractor for the $63.8 million Baggage Claim Expansion and Modernization.

Our work included expanding the baggage claim footprint, upgrading 11 carousels and their associated baggage handling systems, relocating overhead conveyors and ductwork, and carefully sequencing construction to keep the airport fully operational. At times, that required installing up to 7,000 linear feet of temporary baggage conveyor to maintain service as permanent systems were replaced.

The completed baggage claim provides 50% more baggage presentation area along with brighter, more open waiting areas, improved passenger flow, advanced baggage-tracking technology, and more efficient ventilation.
