The new transit station, located on the east side of the Mall of America, is one of the busiest transit hubs in the Twin Cities. Prior to project completion, the 25 year old transit center was in major need of an overhaul. Construction took place in phases to allow operations to continue. Work included demolition of the existing transit station and extensive self-performed concrete work. A new bus turn-around and drop off area were built with a focus on increasing efficiency, functionality and safety for both Metro Transit drivers and passengers. Additional amenities include direct access into the mall via both escalators and elevators, better lighting and new family restrooms.
