Happy Earth Day

At Morcon Construction, building with integrity means thinking not just about today’s needs—but tomorrow’s impact.

This Earth Day, we’re proud to highlight our ongoing work at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), where the Terminal 2 expansion is helping to set a new standard for sustainable infrastructure. As part of the airport’s 2040 Long-Term Plan, the project is designed to significantly reduce environmental impact through smart systems and innovative materials.

With features like high-efficiency lighting, a rainwater harvesting system that will collect an estimated 540,000 gallons annually, and a new ground-source heating and cooling system developed by Minnesota-based Darcy Solutions, the expansion is expected to:

  • Cut energy use for heating and cooling by 19%

  • Reduce water drawn from the local utility by 56%

  • Lower lighting energy demand by 23% (interior) and 62% (exterior)

  • Decrease HVAC energy use by nearly 9%

The project also incorporates low-carbon materials, including mass timber and bamboo-framed triple-glazed windows—marking the first use of a bamboo curtain wall at MSP and further minimizing the terminal’s embodied carbon footprint.

Morcon is proud to be part of a team pursuing LEED Gold certification and advancing MAC’s broader emissions-reduction goals. It’s one more way we’re building toward a more sustainable future—one project at a time.
